The story of Leo
My brother Leo has autism.
I know that for some it´s scary, for others it is rare, and others do not even know what it is. We discovered it when he was about 3 years old. We did not know what it is and how to deal with the symptoms.
My name is Silviya and as a sister of a SUPER hero, I have not been in his surroundings all the time, but I know about what my mother and his father are passing through.
I know exactly when he stopped pronouncing the few words that he knew. I noticed when he stopped making eye contact, he didn´t want anyone, he didn´t play with anyone, he didn´t respond by his name. And the most worrying thing was when he was hitting his head against the wall and we didn´t understand why.
We have been visiting different doctors to find out what is the reason of the sudden changes that occurred and how we can recover our Leo, who was developing great until then.
They diagnosed him with autism and 39% of disability with a serious difference in the development and real age of 3 years. .
Now Leo is 11 years old and does not speakhe still uses diapers in certain situations, he manifests aggression, because we dont understand him and is still dependent on many occasions of my mother's help. He has 65% disability. He has gone through infinite therapies and special schools, nuclear magnetic resonances, DNA research. The walk on his tiptoes shortened his Achilles tendons, which we tried to "fix" with operations and the temporary immobilization of a 7-year-old boy. Unsuccessfully.
Now we have hope to improve mainly in speech and in general his state through an innovative solution: regenerative medicine.
What are the stem cells and what they do for Leo?
